Do I need a WWC Check?

The WWC Check does not apply to everyone. You must apply for a WWC Check or hold a current WWC Card if you are about to start or are engaged in child-related work in Western Australia and/or the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

‘Child-related work’ has a specific definition which is found in section 6 of the WWC Act.

Answer the questions below to find out if you are in
child-related work and require a WWC Check.

  • Do you carry out a business? or
    Do you carry out paid work? or
    Do you carry out unpaid or volunteer work? or
    Do you carry out work as a student on placement?
    in connection with one or more of the categories of child-related work? If you are unsure which category applies to the work you do, please discuss with your employer, volunteer organisation or education provider. Click here to see a list of all the categories of child-related work.

    If you answered YES to the above question and identified a category of child-related work then please consider Question 2, below. If you answered NO to the above question you are not in child-related work.
  • Do the usual duties of the work involve, or are they likely to involve, contact with a child (where that child is not a fellow employee or employed by you)?

    There are special provisions which apply to Managerial Officers in connection with Category 1 – a child care service, who are deemed to be in child-related work whether or not they have contact with a child.

    If you answered YES to the above question then please consider Question 3, below. If you answered NO to the above question you are not in child-related work.
