If you are a volunteer and receive payments that only cover the costs of your child-related work then you are considered a ‘volunteer’. However where you receive payments that cover more than your expenses to do your child-related work, then you are considered as ‘paid’ and should apply for a WWC Check as a ‘paid employee’.

A WWC Check is currently $11 for volunteers and $85 for paid employees.  Once you hold a Card, it is valid for three years and can be used for all the child-related work you do during this time.

We recommend discussing your payments and expenses with your employer or organisation to consider your individual circumstances. For more information about ‘volunteer work’ click here.
