  • COVID-19 and WWC Check Services

    Apr 09, 2020

During this unprecedented public health emergency, we are making changes so that we minimise the impacts of COVID-19 and continue to deliver services. We are adjusting our practices and taking steps to minimise risks to our staff and partner agencies during the pandemic. Currently some Australia Post services have been impacted. Before visiting an Australia Post outlet please check their trading hours by visiting the Australia Post website: www.auspost.com.au.

Our phone services may also be limited during this time. If your enquiry is urgent, please email us at checkquery@communities.wa.gov.au or send us your enquiry by completing an enquiry form. We will do our best to respond to emails and calls as soon as possible. We also have a list of frequently asked questions on our FAQs page which may assist you. For more information about COVID-19 and your WWC Check click here.

Our website continues to provide WWC Check information. We also offer online services which include online renewals, checking the status of a WWC Check application and validating a WWC Card.

We thank you for your understanding and patience during these challenging times.

  • WWC Checks and COVID-19

    Mar 23, 2020

The Working with Children Screening Unit is committed to supporting customers and staff as we respond to COVID-19. We will do our best to maintain services as the pandemic unfolds.

Our top priorities are the safety of children and community members, and minimising any potential impacts of COVID-19. We have therefore suspended all upcoming community workshops.

We encourage eligible card holders whose WWC Cards are due to expire to renew using the online renewal system. Click here for more information about renewing a WWC Card.

We thank you for your understanding and patience during these challenging times.

  • Are you a volunteer or unpaid student now doing paid work?

    Sep 18, 2019

If you are a volunteer or unpaid student on placement and you have a current WWC Card, then you can use it for any new paid child-related work too. Your WWC Card is valid for three years and can be used for all child-related work, whether paid or unpaid and across all categories of child-related work. All you need to do is show your Card to your new employer for them to record your WWC Check information.

When your Card expires, you must renew as a paid employee for your new employer or organisation.

  • WWC Check fee increase

    Jun 26, 2019

From 1 July 2019, a WWC Check application and renewal for paid employees and self-employed people will increase from $85 to $87. The cost of the Check continues to be heavily subsidised by Government. This small increase brings the fee in line with the current CPI.

There are no fee changes to the cost of the Check for volunteers and unpaid people, or for replacement WWC Cards, which remains at $11.

For more information about WWC Check fees, visit our Fees page.

  • Do volunteers who are paid need a WWC Check?

    Apr 12, 2019

If you are a volunteer and receive payments that only cover the costs of your child-related work then you are considered a ‘volunteer’. However where you receive payments that cover more than your expenses to do your child-related work, then you are considered as ‘paid’ and should apply for a WWC Check as a ‘paid employee’.

A WWC Check is currently $11 for volunteers and $85 for paid employees.  Once you hold a Card, it is valid for three years and can be used for all the child-related work you do during this time.

We recommend discussing your payments and expenses with your employer or organisation to consider your individual circumstances. For more information about ‘volunteer work’ click here.
